Practice exam papers

Practice exam papers

All exam boards provide ‘specimen’ exam papers that can be used for mock exams. They can be found on the exam boards’ websites. Schools and other exam centres will be able to get more copies than those published.

If the course has been going for more than a year or two, there will be past exam papers which are usually available online, but that is not guaranteed. GCSE courses have changed over the last couple of years, so there may be are very few, if any, past exam papers – depending on the course.

If you do get past papers online, try to download the marking schemes as well. It helps to know what the answers are and how the questions are marked.

Older papers

Papers from older GCSE courses may still be useful as the course content doesn’t change that much. What does tend to change is the style of questions. For example, the new Maths GCSE courses have more extended, problem-solving, style questions, but the content is 99% the same. Therefore, older exam papers are still useful.

You can also buy specimen papers from cgpbooks.co.uk which have answers – worth getting, as are their workbooks.

Coming…

My aim is to create a list of sources for papers, but it’s quite time-consuming – keep in touch. I do have details of Maths and Science.
